Organizations & Activities

The Art Institute of Pittsburgh offers more than just training in art and technical skills - it also gives you the chance to take part in countless activities, find your Zen side and pamper your inner drama queen. This and more is made possible through The Art Institute of Pittsburgh Student Affairs Department. Membership in all approved clubs is open to all students in good standing regardless of age, sex, race, national origin, religion, disability, or sexual orientation. Here is just a sample of the many ways you can spend your spare time besides staring down your Playstation:

Clubs: 

Advertisers Desired (Advertising Club) - Group for students in all programs that provides political, social, and economic opportunities for students interested in the field of marketing and advertising. Faculty Advisor: Jackie Fisher

AiP TV - Television production group for students in all programs. Faculty Advisor: Cy Anderson

Animated Intelligence - An animation interest group potentially bridging three departments: VMG, MAA, and GAD - primary role is to support students' involvement in film festivals. Faculty Advisor: Angela Love

Anime and Mangaka Club - Provides members with an environment to both enjoy Japanese animation and the opportunity to further their skills in a relaxed atmosphere and in a professional manner. Faculty Advisor: Doug Anke

The Arcane Order - Meet other AiP students and play Magic The Gathering. Staff Advisor: Norm Huelsman

Car Designers and Enthusiasts Desired (Transportation Club) - A club acknowledging the importance of esthetics and the beauty of design in the transportation field. Faculty Advisor: David Pence

Ceramics Club - Ceramic arts group for students in all programs. Faculty Advisor: Eric Hahn

Culinary Arts Club - Organization for students who share a common interest in the culinary arts. Faculty Advisor: Sally Frey

Designers by Nature (Graphic Design Club) - Promote the field of Graphic Design and expose our students to local and national opportunities, creating a bridge both socially and professionally in the industry. Faculty Advisors: Shirley Yee and Mark Bender

Digital Premiere - Offers students in visual effects and motion graphics the opportunity to gain real life experience. Faculty Advisor: Max Walters

Drama Club - Theatrical performance club that offers experience and enjoyment in all aspects of dramatic production; performances every other quarter; shows are staffed almost exclusively by students; opportunities for students interested in all aspects of dramatic production including set construction, scene art, lighting, sound, performance, publicity, and more. Dream Models Club - Provides a fun and exciting environment for students to explore the worlds of modeling and fashion. Faculty Advisor: Gretchen Harnick

The Fashion Club - Provides a time for students of all programs interested in fashion to meet and exchange ideas. Faculty Advisor: Gretchen Harnick

Film Club - The Film Club produces short and full-length feature films to be entered in competitions and to gain real life experience. Faculty Advisor: Don Gabany

Grace Bible Study - Members are encouraged to read, discuss, question, talk, and pray about the studies and teachings of the Bible. Faculty Advisor: Sharieda Patterson

Habitat for Humanity - Habitat for Humanity fundraises for, builds with, and increases awareness about Habitat for Humanity in both Pittsburgh and nationwide. Staff Advisor: Crystal Lynam

Hip Hop Dance Club - Help students release the stress they undergo during the school week and give students a chance to interact over a common interest of dance. Faculty Advisor: Kelly Coursey-Gray

The Improv Club - A fun way to interact with all programs while entertaining and being entertained through the art of improv. Faculty Advisor: William Moner

Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) Student Chapter - Provides awareness and assistance to members in respect to design quality, trends, and advancement in the industry. Faculty Advisor: Eric Hahn

Interior Design Student Professional Alliance (IDSPA) - Student organization combining ASID (American Society of Interior Designers) and IIDA (International Interior Design Association) here at AiP.  Faculty Advisors: Windy Neff and Suzanne Kile

National Technical Honor Society - A national honor society for students with a cumulative grade point average of 3.4 and higher; primary goal is to reward and encourage outstanding student effort and achievement. Staff Advisor: Sara Rathburn

Pittsburgh Christian Campus Ministry - Provides students with the opportunity to get involved with a Christian organization during their time at AiP. Staff Advisor: Sharieda Patterson

Pennsylvania Paranormal Association - Gain access to areas labeled as haunted and either prove or disprove that label. Faculty Advisor: Doug Anke

Pittsburgh Entertainment Design Society - A group for students who share an interest in the entertainment design industry. Faculty Advisor: Lars Nyquist

Pride Club - Provides a safe, welcoming atmosphere where LGBT and LGBT supporters can meet as well as provide increased awareness to the AiP community. Staff Advisor: Nina Gibbs

Production Monsters - Ongoing video production and post-production of The Art Institute of Pittsburgh and local events. Faculty Advisor: Andy Maietta

Student Council - Governing board of the student body which provides a forum for student concerns and views and the link between students and administrators. Staff Advisor: Sara Rathburn

The Art Institute of Pittsburgh Illustrators - Established to bring together committed students who share the passion for using their creativity to illustrate traditionally and/or digitally. Faculty Advisors: Mark Bender and Alan Hassinger

The Right Brain Newsletter / Literary and Art Staff - All students are welcome to join this staff and work on AiP publications. Meetings are Tuesdays at Noon in the First Floor Conference Room. Staff Advisor: Sara Rathburn
