The Art Institute of Charleston Announces New Digital Filmmaking & Video Production Program

(July 8, 2008-Charleston, S.C.) The Art Institute of Charleston is proud to announce that is has received approval from the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education to offer a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Digital Filmmaking & Video Production. The program will begin being offered in the fall quarter that begins October 6, 2008.

The Digital Filmmaking & Video Production program at The Art Institute of Charleston will offer a bachelor's level of education. Students will learn to formulate, construct and deliver digital audio, video and motion graphics. Graduates will be familiar with advances in high-definition video, storage area networks, and software toolsets working with industry-related software and equipment.

"We are excited to offer this Digital Filmmaking & Video Production program that will give students an extensive knowledge in digital media and provide the foundations necessary to become successful and effective in this exciting business," said Richard Jerue, President of The Art Institute of Charleston. "We believe a bachelor' degree in Digital Filmmaking & Video Production will answer a significant employment need in the Charleston area which has an emerging filmmaking community that is growing by leaps and bounds each year."

Throughout the degree program students will work with industry-related equipment in the creative atmosphere of filmmaking and digital production. They will have opportunities for real-world experience by working in the field. Faculty will be experienced and practicing professionals who will mentor and work side-by-side with the students to promote the development of skills necessary to use the camera and editing equipment as technical and imaginative tools.

The Art Institute of Charleston's Dean of Academic Affairs Marilyn Burstein says, "Digital Filmmaking & Video Production is going to be very important to Charleston and the state at large as the entire art and design community, certainly including digital media and the field of digital storytelling, grows."

Graduates are prepared to seek employment such as video editor, video producer, camera operator, assistant director, assistant producer, scriptwriter or digital videographer.
